“The Dirty Side of Esther Williams”

Here at The Stranger, we’ve never been afraid of words like “bribery.” So when I received six xeroxes and two color photos of Shelly Corbett’s work in the mail, well, I sat up and took notice. Corbett’s underwater nude photography is one of the naughtier pleasures to be found inside Linda Cannon’s Pioneer Square gallery. Since it is “art,” it probably gets referred to as “erotica,” but I guess I just call it “Ka-BOING!” For her current show at Linda Cannon (520 Second Avenue, 233-0444) Corbett collaborated with one Lisa Vallejo, a fabricator of metal chairs with tasteful shoulder harnesses, helmets, and leg restraints. The chair went into the water, the models got into the chair and what resulted was on of the more “uninhibited” (in the words of Cannon) shoots Corbett’s done.
