The Dirty Side of Esther Williams
The Stranger - January 17, 1996.
Here at The Stranger, weve never been afraid of words like bribery. So when I received six xeroxes and two color photos of Shelly Corbetts work in the mail, well, I sat up and took notice. Corbetts underwater nude photography is one of the naughtier pleasures to be found inside Linda Cannons Pioneer Square gallery. Since it is art, it probably gets referred to as erotica, but I guess I just call it Ka-BOING! For her current show at Linda Cannon (520 Second Avenue, 233-0444) Corbett collaborated with one Lisa Vallejo, a fabricator of metal chairs with tasteful shoulder harnesses, helmets, and leg restraints. The chair went into the water, the models got into the chair and what resulted was on of the more uninhibited (in the words of Cannon) shoots Corbetts done. Check out the results through February 11, One-handed net surfers might want to visit Linda Cannon Gallery.
